Our Pastor

Chris, Andrea & Zachariah
Chris Manessis was raised with a Greek Orthodox background, being named after his grandfather, a Greek priest. For many years he realized that there was more to a relationship with God than ritual and tradition. He had studied and memorized Scripture, but found no peace in life.

Then, on May 3rd, 1992, at 6pm, in the south coast town of Esperance, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour by speaking one word – Yes. No fancy prayer, just a simple Yes, from the heart. Exactly one week later, he had the privilege to lead his wife and primary school sweetheart, Andrea, to Jesus Christ. At 6pm, May 10th, 1992, she too repented of her sins and placed her faith in the Saviour.

On March 21st, 1993, they were baptised and joined Calvary Baptist Church in Australind, then still in the mission stage. On November 5th, 1995, Pastor Manessis surrendered to the gospel ministry, saying only one word at the altar - Yes. Trained under Michael Meredith, the evangelist starting Calvary Baptist Church, he was ordained Pastor of Calvary Baptist on May 21st, 2001, the very day the church was organised.

They have one son, Zachariah, named after the father of John Baptist. On February 15th, 2015, at the age of 7 years old, he called on the Lord Jesus Christ whilst alone in his bedroom. Late at night, with his Dad standing unnoticed outside the, Zachariah was heard to cry out one word when he called upon the Lord - Yes.

Church History

Mike, Debbie, Rebekah & Sarah
In 1980, Michael Meredith surrendered to the call of God upon his life to preach the gospel. In 1990, he was sent out of Berean Baptist Church, Springfield Missouri, to plant churches in Australia.

Initially planning for Tasmania, they stopped at Australind to acclimatize to life down-under. Through circumstances, prayer and the leading of the Holy Ghost, they settled in Australind to start the first Independent Baptist Church in the South-West region.

Through the early years, people were saved, baptized and discipled. A young church was in the making, being officially organised on May 21st, 2001. Since that day, Calvary Baptist Church has pressed ahead in faithfully carrying on the Great Commission.

Brother Meredith is currently planting Berean Baptist Church in Mandurah.
